CNG is the same Natural Gas that is used in our homes (through pipes and not the Domestic LPG cylinder) and which is compressed at high pressure and transported through pipelines until it is stored in 'Tanks or Cylinders' from where the vehicle Engine is fueled, replacing the use of Gasoline/Petrol.
CNG is meant to be the fuel of the future since it is a non contaminant & Super abundant source of energy in our country, fir for mass consumption. This is evidenced in its low cost & in the fact that it can have a great number of uses.
CNG cost 50% less on a running car than on a gasoline running car , taking into account the prevailing prices of CNG & Petrol in the year 2011.
CNG is a clean fuel that can noticeably improve the environmental conditions, Reducing the pollution in Indian cities. A vehicle converted to CNG can also be driven on Petrol by means of a change over switch. This means that we can alternate between both Fuels.
The CNG cylinders are stronger & meet more severe standards than Petrol Tanks.
The Ignition Point of CNG is also higher than that of petrol, Thus posing a lesser threat of catching Fire.
CNG being a gaseous Fuel, will vapourise in case of an accidental leak-unlike Petrol or diesel which Spills over, Causing Greater threat.
